BEAUTY: Hair Journey (2020 — Part 1)

I have been wanting to dye my hair crazy colours for a long time now but since I have worked a job with strict grooming standards for 5 years, I never wanted to pass the opportunity as I have now left that job. So even though I’m almost 30 and it may seem like I’m going through a mid-life crisis, trust me, this is me having fun while I can!

Yes, you can call this a hair journey because you wouldn’t believe how much I’ve coloured my hair in a span of 5 months — from January until date! And part 1 because I obviously plan to try other crazy colours and style.

So here goes..

January to February 2020 — Honey Blond Hair

Getting your hair bleached by a professional by spending at least 8 hours at the salon to lift your hair a few shades lighter is a pain as it is. But imagine doing it yourself, with whatever info google provides as well as watching videos on youtube — from diy bleach fails to successful ones, as well as Hairdresser Reacts videos (Hi Brad Mondo!)

Anyway, for this hair colour, I achieved it after bleaching it twice, on separate occasions! It may look good.. but trust me, patches everywhere!! Anyway, it turned out like this because my hair wasn’t that light yet, and I toned it with the Wella T18, so it was a bit orange still.

After 2 sessions of bleach
Same hair colour – just a different filter

This hair lasted for about 2 months, because since I fried it to its death, had to keep it for that long and washed it with TLC.

March 2020 —

Ahhh.. my birthday month! I knew I just had to colour my hair a crazy colour.. and I wanted it to be blue. But sorry.. it just didn’t happen.

Anyway, I bleached my hair again, just another session with a 10vol developer (a more subtle and safe choice for already bleached hair) to achieve this pink and purple mix.

Same hair colour – just a different filter (again)

April 2020 —

So 2 weeks into the lockdown (2nd week of April), I just got bored and coloured my hair purple. I basically just applied it on my faded pink hair, I didn’t have to do a bleach wash to remove the pastel pink colour.

Btw, I have uploaded a video of me applying this hair colour on my Instagram account –

Right after the first wash
After 3 washes
After 6 washes

I am actually loving the faded colour of my purple hair after 6 washes but yet again, I got bored so…

May 2020 —

I have been telling everyone that I bleached my hair blond for the longest time to go blue, and to be honest.. going for this colour scared me the most!! I mean, it’s just too bold and vibrant that I initially thought of just dyeing it denim blue.. but then that would waste all my energy and effort to lift my hair only to achieve a safe and “okay” kind of blue.

So I went ahead and coloured my hair this bright (azure/royal) blue colour. It was a bit brighter than I have expected as I wanted it to appear a bit pastel but I loved it nonetheless. I felt so bold and confident! No regrets!

So yeah, I still have my blue hair now. I am already thinking about my next hair colour, and I am actually thinking of the colour green.. or maybe just more pastel colours (like cotton candy pink, or lavander). If you have any suggestions, let me know!
